The First Month: My Must Haves

One Month Favorites

Millie is 15 weeks old. However, all of her growth and development is tracked as her "adjusted age" which should only be just over 4 weeks. Since we brought her home, she hasn't needed much. Babies this age don't do a whole lot as you all probably know. They sleep, pee, poop, cry, eat and cry some more. What I am trying to say is you really only need the necessities...diapers, wipes, onesies, etc. However, there have been a few things that have really made our lives easier as new parents.

4Moms Mamaroo- As I have mentioned before, Millie has really bad acid reflux therefore, she cannot lay flat without feeling uncomfortable. The only way she has been able to sleep is in this "spaceship" looking device. We don't turn it on because we've found she doesn't really love the movement. She just likes the fact that it is elevated. It has been a lifesaver and has allowed us to get the sleep we need as well.

Aden + Anais Swaddle Blankets- These are probably on every mom's favorite's list and I am no different. They really are as good as they say they are. Because it is summer, we haven't wanted to put her in a thick swaddle. These are lightweight and sooo soft. My husband can swaddle Millie and make her look like one big, bad burrito. We've also used it as a little blanket when we take her out or we drape it over her stroller so no one will be tempted touch her. (Because germs though...I'm overprotective.)

Summer Infant Comfy Bath Sponge- I received the 4moms Infant Tub for my baby shower from my friend Sarah. We absolutely love it because it has a color coded digital thermometer that makes it really easy to set the perfect temperature for Millie's bath. It also drains the dirty water while fresh water constantly flows in. However, Millie is just way too small for it to be comfortable for her during bath time. My mother-in-law and father-in-law watched us give her a bath over Skype (they live in Florida) and noticed how difficult it was to hold her in place while bathing her at the same time. Not even 4 days later, we received a package in the mail from them with this foam bath insert. IT IS A LIFESAVER and for the first time ever, Millie didn't cry during her bath. We place it in the 4moms tub and it fits perfectly. And the best part...it's only $7.00. Go get one of these! It is worth it.

Nosefrida- Unfortunately, both Tyler and I were blessed with summer colds after we brought Millie home from the hospital. It was bound to happen with the exhaustion associated with having a NICU baby. We wore masks and did everything we could to keep Millie from getting sick but we failed. She ended up coming down with a cold and was congested and snotty for a good week. This was the only thing that gave her some relief. Once a day, usually in the morning, we would drop some saline in her nostrils to break everything up and then just suck it right out. The concept is gross but those hospital bulbs just do not work. Don't worry...no snot was inhaled on our end. :)

Boudreaux's Butt Paste- I had a coupon for a free tube of this from Target. I think I received it in a goody bag I got from Destination Maternity when I purchased a pair of jeans. I am all about trying free stuff. I ordered the Honest Company healing balm and diaper rash cream and also received some Desitin for a shower. To be honest, I have tried all of them and nothing works better than the Boudreaux's. Millie started to get a little diaper rash around 9 weeks and this literally cleared it up within a day. Now, we skip everything else and go straight to this. I use it about every other diaper change to avoid it happening again. Smooth as a baby's butt. She is happy. If she's happy, I'm happy. Plus, it smells good too.

Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags- Pumping bags are expensive! When Millie was in the hospital, they gave me all the Snappies I needed. But when she came home, that free stuff ended. :) I was spending a lot of money on the Medela bags and to be honest, they didn't really hold a lot of milk. My supply is quite large because I pumped every three hours for a solid three months. These bags are great because they hold over 240ml which amounts to about 8 ounces. I joined Amazon Prime and am able to get 100 of these bad girls for only $17.00 which beats the $19.00 I was spending on 50 bags of Medela at Buy Buy Baby.

Honest Dryer Cloths- This is probably my favorite product from the Honest Company and that is saying a lot because I really do love them all. These leave Millie's clothes so soft and you can re-use each sheet more than once. These are the best baby safe dryer sheets you can buy.

WubbaNub Pacifier- If you see Millie out and about, chances are this is in her mouth. She loves this thing. This unique design helps the pacifier stay in her mouth because the giraffe rests in the laying down position on her chest holding it in place. Genius. Why couldn't I have thought about this? I'd be rich. We've also never lost it because it is so cute and hard to miss. Now, to keep the dog from thinking it is his toy to play with.

Hopefully our list of must haves for month one helps any expectant parent prepare for their baby. While every child is different and prefers various things, these have made our past couple of months with Millie a little easier. What are some of your favorites? Am I missing anything?

Thanks for reading!
